Statue on the facade of the
Sainte-Réparate
Cathedral
In Old Town Nice one finds many beautiful baroque style monumental buildings, like the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral at Place Rossetti. This church succeeded the cathedral on the hill which was torn down in 1650.
Walking from Place Rossetti over Rue Rossetti in the direction of the Castle Hill you cross Rue Droite. Here is the Palais Lascaris which houses the municipal museum of Nice. Palais Lascaris has a great collection of antiquities and you can also admire the beautiful interior with its rich vaulted ceilings and superb ornamented staircases.

Vieux Nice is not only a beautiful and interesting old town, it is also a pleasant area for shopping and strolling about, and a great residential area as well. Because the people live so close together they are like one big family.
One can see neighbors sometimes making conversation across the narrow street, talking from their open windows when they take care of the flowers. The typical French "joie de vivre" is in the atmosphere all the time.
